Coil Clinic and Contraception
Long-acting, low-fuss options tailored to you.
We offer intrauterine contraception (both hormonal systems and copper coils) and the contraceptive implant, alongside short-acting methods where appropriate. The focus is simple: the right method, fitted well, with clear aftercare.
Before your fit
A relaxed consultation to understand your priorities (bleeding, skin, mood, future fertility), review health history and medicines, check cervical screening status and, where relevant, arrange a pregnancy test or STI screen. We’ll discuss benefits, risks and what to expect with no rush, no pressure.
Coils (IUS & copper IUD)
- Hormonal intrauterine systems (IUS): highly effective contraception that can lighten or stop periods for many users.
- Copper IUD: non-hormonal, period-neutral to slightly heavier for some, and the most effective form of emergency contraception when needed. Both are placed in a short appointment with options for local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable. You can usually return to normal activities the same day.
Contraceptive implant
A small, flexible rod placed under the skin of the upper arm in minutes, effective for up to three years. We’ll talk through expected bleeding patterns and simple removal/replacement when it suits you.
Durations & reviews
We’ll advise the exact timeframe for your chosen method and set an easy reminder for replacement if desired.
Emergency contraception
A copper IUD can be fitted for emergency contraception in the right timeframe. We can also discuss oral options when appropriate. Time is critical in these situations so please highlight this when booking.
Access & booking
No referral needed. You can self-refer directly. We recognise NHS services are under pressure and waiting times can vary. We offer flexible, timely appointments for consultations, fittings and reviews, arranged around work and family commitments. With your permission we can share a summary with your NHS GP to keep care joined-up.
Aftercare
You’ll leave with clear guidance (what’s normal, what’s not, when to check coil strings, when to call) and a direct line for questions. Reviews can be in-person or by phone/video.
